Ian accepts our award

We're a Winner.

In April 2011 we received the Northern Region Landcare award under the "Coastcare" category.

Then in September 2011 we were nominated as a finalist in the State Landcare Awards and became "Coastcare" category winners for NSW.

This significant level of success and recognition of our efforts has only been possible because of all the work put in by the many members of our group.

In 2012 we automatically entered a very strong field at the National level - and won!  This was a most gratifying result.

So thanks to all of you who have given your time and energy over the last few years. If you are interested in joining in our efforts, please contact us.

Landcare Australia

Landcare Australia said:

"Thirteen of the state's most impressive environmental achievements have been recognised at the 2011 NSW Landcare Awards ceremony.

"The ceremony, held in Parkes, celebrated individual and community volunteer projects that have made significant contributions to the environment in local communities around New South Wales.

"All of the nominees and winners should be incredibly proud of the impact they have made in protecting the natural resources in their local communities. Volunteers play a vital role in restoring and maintaining our environment at a local level, and the Landcare Awards is a terrific opportunity to acknowledge their efforts and celebrate their achievements.

"The high calibre of nominees and impressive achievements of the winners demonstrates the dedication and enthusiasm of the Landcare community, and the essential role it plays in the management of Australia's natural resources.

"The winners in each category represent the diverse work that the landcare movement is involved in with activities ranging from sustainable farming practices to rehabilitation of coastal sites".

Our award was received for "excellence in activities that have contributed to the significant improvement of local coastal and/or marine environments, including estuaries, coastal and marine wetlands and saltmarsh ecosystems". In particular, we have:

  • "Undertaken projects that increase community awareness and engagement with coastal environmental issues linked to . . . 'Caring for our Country' targets"
  • "Improved the sustainable use and/or management of coastal natural resources".
  • "Targeted the causes and symptoms of local coastal environmental issues.
  • "Developed partnerships for Coastcare activity with local councils, businesses, school, and other community groups.
